WHAT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED:

JMEC has been structural subconsultant to major Prime Consultants for 6 different on-call bridge seismic retrofit contracts for a total of 18 bridges for the California Department of Transportation.

For Contract 59X846, JMEC completed the seismic analysis, displacement ductility analysis, seismic retrofit strategy determination, seismic retrofit design, and provided construction design support services for two bridges including the South Paso Robles Overhead (L/R).

Each bridge is a 620-ft 6-span steel girders on concrete single columns.   The left and right bridges have similar span arrangement with a 125-ft span over railroad.   To minimize the impacts on Railroad operation, special footings were designed to satisfy minimum lateral clearance during construction.  The retrofit measures included:
  • Footing Retrofit by CIDH piles
  • Add steel column casings
  • Add hold-downs to steel bent caps
  • Add shear keys and lumber blockings to abutments
  • Add restrainers across expansion joints
